The researchers surveyed about 300 fa'afafine, and found that they were significantly more likely to be altruistic toward their nieces and nephews than either single men or women, or mothers or fathers. The scientists call this behavior avuncular, or uncle-like.
The fa'afafine reported being much more willing to pay medical and school fees for their nieces and nephews, to help them with homework, babysit, teach them songs and dances. And a follow-up study confirmed that fa’afafine had indeed spent more money on their young relatives than straight people.
I think that nature may intend for gay people to act as "assistant parents" to their siblings' children, and/or as extra help for aging parents. It's for these reasons that I tend to think that nature didn't intend for gays to raise children. (And I am a gay guy.)
First of all nobody cares. Second of all, even if it were true, what are you going to do about it? Run out and select who your uncle is?
Actually, some of us do care, so you're wrong to say "nobody cares". This wouldn't have been a news story and the research wouldn't have been done if nobody cared about it.
And no, you can't choose your uncle, but it's just something interesting to talk about. If it doesn't interest you, you're free to ignore the topic.

Bah, I am the best uncle of my sisters boys!!! Ask them, they will tell you? I am as straight as you get!
Ignore the insults, my uncle added some cultural interests to our life that my parents did'nt think much about. We loved and looked forward to the interest he showed in us, though he lived in another state and had a demanding career. We have some wonderful memories to thank him for.

I also would like an explanation as to how an uncle can "pass genes" to a child ?
Only a parent can "pass genes".
It does refer to twins, who have similar genes, but it does not give any hint that non twin gay uncles are any better than non twin straight uncles.
I'd imagine, on principle, the survey would also show that straight twins made better uncles than non-twins.
Methinks someone writing the article was struggling for inspiration, so made something up !

Maybe we could discuss people manipulating statistics to make them say what they want ?
