For the purposes of this poll:
- You do not live at home with mom and dad.
- You are financially independent (e.g., no calling home from college asking for money).
For all the independent adults out there, how often do you communicate with your parents (via text, email, phone or in person)?
Food for thought if you choose to post: Do your parents normally initiate contact? Do you call them simply to "check in"? Are you extremely close and seek their advice when making major decisions? Are you good friends?
I'm curious as to how much people include parents in their lives, once they reach true adulthood.
Just about every day. I walk to and from work, and have gotten in the habit of calling them to talk during my commute. They'll also occasionally email or start up a Gchat session during the day when I'm free at work.
I speak with my parents almost daily, certainly at least every 2-3 days, I never go longer than that. My parents live about 30 minutes from me. I have a brother and sister that both live out of state, and they both talk to my parents daily. It has nothing to do with consulting them on decisions or needing guidance, for any of us. Just that they are our parents - we are all close and stay in touch.
Every couple of days, usually. We live close and my mom and I are both involved with dog rescue, so we do a lot of events together. Sometimes I need a break. LOL
I'm the go to guy for taking care of my retired parents. If it is dirty, complicated and needs a strong back or mechanical knowledge, I am there. It's going to be very hard someday when they are gone!
I live across the country from my parents, but I call home every other day or so. Generally on the weekends I'll talk to them for an hourish.
