I have been tracking the weather in NC before we move... and you are starting to look worse than Arizona!

Today (June 18):
Boone: 87
Hendersonville: 91
Burnsville: 92
Hot Springs: 94
Lenoir: 96

Add your humidity of about 60% and all of a sudden our 105 with 10% humidity doesn't see quite as bad.

Tell me this is highly unusual.

Please.

Those temps are about 10 degrees above normal for mid-June.

Thanks.

This does, however, tell me that air conditioning is mandatory in a home I buy - even in Boone.

A/C in NC is a given anyway. Even if the temps were in normal range right now...we still have July, Aug, and Sept ahead of us. Liz

My home in Asheville did not have AC when we bought it. By late May of the first year, we realized that we'd be much more comfortable with it. It doesn't break 90° too much here, but 30-40 days in the upper 80's each summer made it worth the investment to us. It is by no means a "dry heat."

It's summer, it's the south, heat is part of it. However, it is pretty nice in the winter when you have no ice and snow.

Heat has its advantages, we're already getting local corn and tomatoes on the coast. We had strawberries before mid-April and there are some berries still in the fields though this spell of heat will likely finish them off. Last week was much cooler and it is supposed to cool off before the end of the week.

You just have to deal with the heat properly, either pool (http://coastalnc.org/bluewaterpool - broken link), lake, or ocean (http://coastalnc.org/beachboatparty - broken link) work very well.

There is a hot spell right now, is all. I was in Charlotte from Weds-Friday, and it was chilly and rainy. But, the whole time I was gone, it was 87-90 here in Michigan. Today it will be 92 (already 88), and the humidity is around 50%. Sure, it gets hotter in NC than in Michigan, but right now, it is an all over trend.

lol yeah,

Living in NC without AC is a no no...lol

The hot weather today is way above average....but normal for July through August.

I have been to Arizona many times....and in my opinion, it never gets that hot here. The dry heat is terrible! Dry chapped lips the entire time.

Because of the high humidity here...there is often some clouds that will block the sun out at times....making it a bit nice in the shade.

But there is always those 5-10 days out of the year where you should just stay inside all day....

As someone who spent alot of time in Lake Havasu City & Vegas, I can tell you that we don't come close to the heat there. We don't get the non-stop 4-5 months of heat...and we certainly don't hit 124 like we did on one trip to LHC! BUT...like someone said above, there are about 5-10 days where you just do not want to go out. AC is a must. I think if you can handle heat in general, you will do fine.

By the way, this year has been all over the board from what I hear, only being here 2 yrs. But the weather is VERY changable here unlike the west. You get used to being prepared for anything...but I like variation.

I agree, the variations are good. So far I've seen a couple hot days followed by cooler and sometimes a bit of rainy days. It cools off and then gets warm/hot again. But it hasn't been week after week of nothing but burning hot weather. Does July and Aug. have that sort of weather here? Or is it basically the way it is now with a little more constant heat?? And a bit more humidity??
