Greetings lovely North Carolinians? Caroliners? I'm not sure what the technical name is, but I hope your all doing just fine.

I've been doing a bit a research and I can't help but notice that there seems to be some hostility between North Carolina and some of the people from Northern states. Being from the North, I decided to post this question in hopes to get a general impression on what you folks think of Canadians. It looks like I'm going to be headed down your beautiful state very soon and was hoping to get a feel of how you feel about us Canucks.

I'm really sorry if I offended or seemed ignorant in anyway, I am just truly clueless in the matter.

Your friendly Northern Neighbour

It's "Carolinians" . "Tar Heels" is another terms used in NC.

Canadians don't really have a history of moving here and complaining that "you don't do things the way we did back home" and there are fewer of them overall, so no chance for hostility to build up over the years. Appreciate what the area has to offer and don't be condescending, and you'll do just fine. It's more the "urban toughness" often found in Northestern big-city metros that chafes against the more mannered and friendly native Southern ways tat can cause resentment. Canadian stereotypes are actually much more like Southern than "urban", I think. But there haven't been enough waves of Candaians moving here for people to form much in the way of a stereotype either way

Treat people as you wish to be treated is generally a rule in moving to any new place, of course, and if your "ways" differ from theirs, remember that you're on "their" turf now, so don't be insulting or patronizing if something seems wacky.

It seems like most people I know don't have much of opinion at all on Canadians simply because as Francois has pointed out there aren't very many of you we come across, well except you guys really like hockey

Now I personally think y'all are great but I travel internationally at least once a year and the tour company I use always has at least a few Canadians on it.

Very honestly, I haven't seen the hosility towards "northerners" as much as those from the north that want to turn NC into the north they left. I've seen a very specific northern group this references.

I'm originally moved down from Michigan by way of Ohio.. and the natives I've met have been very pleasant and friendly. We're always comparing differences between life in NC vs life in MI/OH, but in a friendly telling stories kind of way.
