Canadians don't really have a history of moving here and complaining that "you don't do things the way we did back home" and there are fewer of them overall, so no chance for hostility to build up over the years. Appreciate what the area has to offer and don't be condescending, and you'll do just fine. It's more the "urban toughness" often found in Northestern big-city metros that chafes against the more mannered and friendly native Southern ways tat can cause resentment. Canadian stereotypes are actually much more like Southern than "urban", I think. But there haven't been enough waves of Candaians moving here for people to form much in the way of a stereotype either way
Treat people as you wish to be treated is generally a rule in moving to
any new place, of course, and if your "ways" differ from theirs, remember that you're on "their" turf now, so don't be insulting or patronizing if something seems wacky.
