Do you really want NC to be full of toll roads and new taxes? But how else can all this growth be supported?
Coming from experience, toll roads are not the way to go. I really hope there is a politician on this forum that can provide input to the state because here in NY, all we have are tolls, even in NJ. If the state has to find ways to obtain additional money (which I'm sure they do from the number of people relocating to NC), then I would rather pay the additional money, but not thru tolls. If people think traffic is bad down there now, wait until the toll roads come. It's going to be a disaster, as it is here with the amount of traffic that piles up on these toll booths.

The toll road is pretty much approved. That was yesterday, so it might already be approved today. It will be close to RTP, where 55 and 64 meet. And the toll will be $1.54. They are also proposing making the beltline at 540 a more expensive toll road.

Yup, we can repay the pikes over and over at much faster speeds!

Sorry, the MAS-PIKE is a big sore spot with me...

If you really want to know why local and state taxes are destined to continue to rise, it's because of the enormous debt this country is carrying and the fact that the Feds are cutting services to pay the interest on it/and to score brownie points with voters.

The states and localities are going to have to continue to pick up the slack.

Every time the Federal gov't announces an income tax cut, just expect to see local and state taxes climb.

They moved because they wanted better lives for themselves and that included their children. There are always trade-offs when you leave the known for the unknown but the positives will almost always outweigh the negatives. All those of you moving to NC or any other state are just the new pioneers looking for a better life. It may never be perfect but it will always be different and in most cases the success or failure of the move will depend on the positive enthusiasim of those people making the move. Rock on pioneers!!!
I tell you those pioneers had MOXY! To be able to take everything you could carry pull up roots and leave man that took something. ( we were just talking about them the other night) they had worse to deal with then 95 traffic too! Thanks for the post.

Here's the rub. In five years when NC is just like Florida, there will be no advantage to living in NC. So all the rubes who moved because they couldn't afford to live in NJ or NY, won't be able to afford to live in NC either. Next stop, Wyoming.

You know, I couldnt really have summed it up much better.

Is anyone going to be living in the NE areas in 5 years? Doesnt sound like it. They will be in NC. What does everyone really think that means?

I promise they could open up a Burger King here and people would say "the customers and staff were so friendly in the Burger King, there was hardly no wait in line, and the burgers were 15 cents cheaper here. You people in NC have no idea how good you have it!"

Yes, the very rich & the very poor will continue to be in the northeast, & will continue to prosper. Teh population is growing by leaps & bounds on Long Island.

Oh yeah, I got a good laugh from that one. The one thing that really concerns me though; is that a popular reason given for moving here is so that their kids will be able to survive after they are grown up and looking for a place to livee..... yeah; well, your parents or grandparents were saying the same thing when they moved to Long Island.
