Default Young Family Moving from DE to NC, but WHERE?

HI people!

I always wanted to move down south. We are considering it.
But where?
We are 27, 28 with 4 children.

We need something diverse because delaware is diverse just no opportunities and the people aren't as friendly (almost a fact! but my opinion as well).
We need good public schools
I work in Design and Technology and He works in Hospital and Medical field

We want to buy a house. (Cleaning up credit now)
Looking to move in the next year and half.

A city near by would be fantastic. Don't want to necessarily live in the city.

Give me the skinny please....THANK YOU

It will really depend on where you will be working. We don't know you, so we can't really say what will fit your needs the best.

There are many threads in the forum which address aspects of moving; you might want to use the "Search" function and poke around a bit and then narrow it down to a few places to ask about. It's a big, diverse state (mountains vs beach, urban vs rural, etc) and "where should we move to?" is impossible for anyone to answer without slightly more specific questions Even saying "a city nearby" doesn't narrow it down much, as there are many cities in NC. How much do you know about NC so far, that you have chosen to move here?

But at this point in time, securing jobs before moving (especially with 4 children!) should be your #1 goal, so perhaps doing web searches on what's available in your fields will show you where good possibilities are. Then we can answer specific questions once you get a short list from there.

sounds good. I guess it was too broad of a question lol. I'm researching and yes securing jobs is the first. Thanks for taking your time and responding thanks

What exactly do you do in design and technology? That could be just about anything! If you are a game programmer, then there's certain cities better for jobs.

What does he do in the hospital and medical field? If he's a heart surgeon, then certain cities would be better than others.

What is budget for a house? How many bedrooms? How many stories? How big of a lot?

Make sure you HAVE jobs lined up BEFORE you move. You also HAVE to have a savings to help you out with a new house and the time in between paychecks.

Have you ever visited NC? You REALLY MUST visit before you do move anywhere. And don't visit as a tourist. Find out where grocery stores are, how much groceries are, where WalMart is, Talbots, Chuckie Cheese, JCPenney, Hallmark, whatever you need to live your lives. This is different for everyone.

We moved here from DE last year and have no regrets. I don't miss the I-95 commute, general surliness, and a dry cleaner on every corner to remind me of the suburban sprawl of North Wilmington.

We chose a very rural area that works for us, but as other posters have said, find where your jobs are and then visit. Several times. Engage a good realtor and decide what you want. City life? Suburban? Rural? Access to mountains and ocean? The state has it all.
