I am wondering if anyone can give me feedback on the general state of economy in NC (we are stuck too, at this point, in the decision between NC & SC). I hear mixed things about availability of jobs & rates of pay & would love some feedback. Right now my Fiance' & myself are in Hospitality industry (bartenders at present- but have event work, serving experience, and i managed a hotel, but wouldn't want that again). We truly are hoping to make a move into more of a career field and part of our reason for moving out of northern NH is to go to an area with more financial/employment opportunities (there are so few businesses & rural layout & seasonal po****tions make it really tough to have your own biz here). Can anyone suppy feedback on this?
It really depends what you are looking to do. The job markets are different in both states. There are lots of opportunities in both areas. Do you want a large city area or more rural? You both have hospitality experience, there is a great need for help in that area. NC and SC are not NH or the North East. Give me more detail about what you are looking for?

We live in white Mtns of NH, where towns are very small and people are friendly. We are hoping to find an area that is near more "activity" (culture, restaurants, things to do, etc..) but still live in a friendly, neighborly place. We'd like to be near ocean (w/in 30-45mins) but also be able to have land (2-10 acres), so that we're not on top of our neighbors, and would like to have horses (ideally to also be near some trails). We live in a very rural area presently and are seeking to be able to have more things to do & more ability to make friends & have social life. Neither of us wants to LIVE IN a city - but desire more of a neighborhood with a city closer than it presently is (2 hrs away). We love the idea of year round outdoor activity w/ more moderate temperatures. we would want to be in a friendly area where outsiders are welcome. we both have extensive hospitality & tourism background but hope to find something that offers benefits, more fulfillment etc.....or ideally desire to own our own biz (leasing or purchasing the limited amt. of commercial real estate here in NH is out of the question!). any thoughts would be SOOOOO helpful. I am mid 30's & Fiance is early 40s - if that helps with deciding appropriate type of area. we don't yet have kids - but want to. again - any advice is helpful!
any one know how hudson nc is? jobs in the administrative assistant field and also mental health. or medical field????? any ideas how it is and looks in hudson nc?

If you are really ambitious you can do very well in NC or SC
but like other places if your lazy or a deadbeat neither on is a good choice.

Based on what you described as an ideal location, you need to look toward the eastern shore of NC or SC. Head toward Charleston, SC if you want a beautiful city, beach close by and lower cost of living. I would head to Blowing Rock, NC area if you want mountains and a lot of land. More like the White Mountains. Small shops, tourist location. They do get snow in the winter.
