Default What's the deal with Troy?

My husband, my two-year-old and I were coming back from a weekend in Fayetteville (my parents live there) and we live in Concord. Well, we always pass a small town called Troy. The town can't be more than a 4,000 people but we stopped at the McDonald's for a second to use the bathroom (well, just me.) Two guys were standing in the parking lot. While I was in the bathroom, my husband said one of the guys started to walk over to the car and motion him to roll down the window. My husband said he looked high out of his mind and he motioned back that "he was not interested." It was a very weird and unsettling feeling he said. With a two-year-old in the back seat, he wasn't about to roll down his window. Is there a drug problem in this small town? These guys looked a little dangerous.

I'm familiar with Troy in Montgomery County having lived nearby for 6 very long years. Never thought of it as a dangerous place though. Only 64% of the county's adults have ever graduated from high school. Nuf said.

I am a school teacher in Troy. I have lived here for about 6 months now. I moved from Concord.

Yes, there is a drug problem. If you live here and you don't believe it, you are blind or you are taking a cut of the action.

The high schools have a problem with drug and gang activities. I will say the new principal and vice at West Montgomery are taking a strong stand. It is a tough battle.

Now, let me settle something quickly. We are not much different than any other rural city across the country. The person who started this thread says they are from Concord. Good grief, have you ever hung out on Church or Union Street on Friday night? Concord is full of vice. Anyone remember the Concord riots?

America is falling apart. We removed our moral base in the early 60s and we are now reaping what we have sown.

Hi Rebelfire.
I cant' agree with you more. There is a major problem here and it's only going to get worse.
I'm looking to leave Miami, but want to find a place to raise my kids where people have values and are decent.

Good luck to all

Default Troy needs help.

I live in Troy, North Carolina and I have been there for the past 2 1/2 years. It is currently not a pleasant place to live. It will change eventually to a better place when people decide to pull together and bring about change. The town needs an overhaul from every political office available in a town. The mindset of the people have gotten worse over the years and change seems to be far from reach. But I believe change will come and for the better of the people and the economy in this area.

You just demonstrated the point I was trying to make in another post:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/weste...asheville.html

There is HARDLY ANY PLACE in America today, from all I can tell, that is free of the partner-problems of crime and drugs (and gangs and other social ills like sex with social freedom but without freedom from moral conflict, disease, and fear). I WISH I were back in the fifties. I WISH that the youth of today could live in the relatively safe and innocent world of America's yesteryear....

I believe that change will come when enough people CARE enough to do something about it......

I was born and raised in the troy area, im 25 yrs old, i know troy aint that great but if you think about it there are some good views there. The only reason i moved was to find a better job, and to go back to school. i graduated west montgomery high back in 2001, i visit troy not much has changed just some of the stores i knew are gone. as for the ppl hanging out at McDonalds i did that when i was there but drugs not me. I have family in troy, mt. gilead, candor, biscoe, and star nc. when i lived in candor my home was broken into 2 times guns stolen and they tried to steal my adidas while i was at school, we know who it was but it took the cops forever to get there. any way i guess what im sayin dont judge it until you live it. just by passing by or through dont mean its a bad place live it then you can judge it.
