Pinehurst- Seven Lakes area.....
We've been looking around for a nice place to retire, mostly on the coast (we live five miles from the Jersey beachese now). So far we've looked at the New Bern area and Pinehurst areas. I like both areas, and would prefer to be away from the hurricanes, whereas my wife is not crazy about the Pinehurst area (lack of a beach). However, she indicates she could be happy by a lake, so I'm looking to get some information on the Seven Lakes area.
So all +/- comments appreciated, thank you,....marc

Marc, Seven Lakes is @ 7 miles from Pinehurst. Lakes, golf and horses. 2.5 to 3 hours from the beach. Look at Woodlake in Vass, also. Largest man-made lake in NC and has 2 golf courses. Boating is allowed on the lakes at 7 and Woodlake. Pinehurst has a lake for boating.
Moore County has 42 golf courses for an 80,000 population, so living in a golf community is not mandatory for good golf.
I live in a small developement (no golf) in between Pinehurst and 7lakes.
You've got the right idea. Now you need to come on down and take a look at the area. Not this week though-Women's US Open is in Southern Pines and everything is crowded.
Let me know if I can give you more info.

This area is comprised of many retirees from your area so you probably have friends down here already. It is a good place to live and the area has many activities to participate in according to your interests.

My husband and I are considering moving to Pinehurst, Seven Lakes area. We currently live in Arizona and are more than ready for green and trees. Any information we can get would be of a huge help. Hurricanes? Snakes & ticks? Don't care alot about golf, but would like a waterview of lake. Any suggestions? Thanks, Sammie

Sammie, Green trees and lakes = bugs and snakes. Can't be helped. 7 lakes actually has 7 lakes. Not all lots have a "waterview", and of course there is a premium on those lots.
Hurricanes are infrequent, for this area of NC. We mostly get hit with the same ones that come into the gulf. We only get the tail end of Atlantic coast hurricanes. I've been in this area for 15 years and have had no damage to my house. Have had dead long leaf pines come down, though. Having 60' to 80' trees on the property during a hurricane, is worrisome.
7 Lakes is gated and has its own "police force".

Seven Lakes - Pinehurst
havin fun... thanks for the info. SInce we have snakes & ticks here in Az. that really isn't a concern for me. My husband is just alittle nervous about a move out of state... We traveled to Aberdeen several years ago and I just feel in love with the area. Now I'm just doing as much research as possible.

If it has been "several" years, you'll have to know that things have changed. Aberdeen now has a Super Walmart, Best Buy, Starbucks, Chilis, Outback, Bonefish Grill, etc. This growth has been confined to the junction of US 1 and 15/501. Seven Lakes has added a Dollar General and a Coffee shop, but little else. Southern Pines now has Townhomes close to the Downtown area.
Other than homes on the outskirts of the 3 towns, very little has changed.
