Hi All,
My wife has been offered a job in Wilkesboro NC , at present we live in Edinburgh Scotland, we are both in our early forties and have 2 boys 13 and 10 years old. I have been lookimg at houses etc on the internet and like the look of the Moorsville area, can anyone give me any info on whether I'm looking at the best possible place to re-locate. Thanks.

No. Mooresville is over an hour from Wilkesboro. If you want to be near one of the big cities, you could find somewhere just west of Winston-Salem. That commute would be a little better.

You could try Taylorsville, which could cut the commute in half. Or, if you want to be in the mountains and don't care about prices, you could try Boone.

What do you like about Mooresville? What kind of place are you looking for, and why won't Wilkesboro or the towns around it do?

Hi sll3454,
I don't really know much about the areas in NC, but going with the property websites only, Mooresville seemed to have a greater choice of house for sale and obviously we will have a budget to work with and that budget works with Mooresville also. I appreciate your reply and I will look at Taylorsville.

Thanks again

Hi Lovesmountains,
My wife doesn't want to live too close to her job as she could get called in at weekends ect as she does just now over here in Scotland. We want to live somewhere that isn't remote or too quiet, we have 2 boys who love to mix with other kids and I would hate for them to be bored. I'm planning on working from home but I would still like to be able to drive or walk to shops or a mall etc without it being a trek. As we won't know anyone I'd like to live in a neighbourhood where we can socialise and possibly somewhere with a local bar !! ( we are Scottish after all ) !! Just now we live in a suburb of Edinburgh and it's 30 mins to the city centre but only 5 mins to hills and rivers etc, but there is loads to do where we stay. If there is a place in NC like that which is within an hour roughly from Wilkesboro, then I'm all ears.

Thanks

Gasbottle

Hi again

Here is what I recommend - Boone. It's a university town with one of the better public school systems in the state (Watauga County - google them) for your kids. Commute for your wife would be about 30 minutes, give or take the specific location you decide on. It has everything you need in a beautiful setting (hospital, small mall, etc).

Mooresville is an hour away from Wilkesboro so that's a bit far to be commuting every day.

In addition, in Boone you would not be far from Grandfather Mountain for the gathering of the clans!

Hope this helps!

you might also like the boone area for little side trips to banner elk and grandfather mountain. we have a long ancestoral heritage back to scotland and you might see some similarities still

I would assume with those two locations her job is with a specific company. If that is the case, there is a shuttle that goes from Mooresville to Wilkesboro and she may spend some of her time there as well. With children in school, between the two I would opt for Mooresville.
Plenty to do, very family friendly and a great school system.
