Default Va to NC move

Hello,

I am a recent graduate looking to leave Va Beach and move to NC. I am interested in Raleigh but am unsure of what I would be getting myself into. Any insight would be helpful.

My concentration is in IT.

Why does everyone want to move to North Carolina? Virginia isn't a bad place.

Try posting your question in the Raleigh forum - you might have better luck. I will say this, Raleigh would be a good place to look for IT jobs, though the competition can be stiff. It is a nice place to live too, only half the population of Charlotte and with so many great colleges in the surrounding area there is a young population. Good luck with your choice!

True. Va is not a bad place as is evidenced by the 430k people that live in Va Beach but it's just not for me. After all I was born and raised in NC.

i only have a few problems with virginia beach. first, va beach is a tourist town. outside of the season there is not much entertainment and there is no night life.

i have been here for all my life and want to get away to a new area with new experiences.

Also the reason this post was not placed there is because I am still trying to find the best place for me.

I have never personally been to Raliegh but I heard it is a great place. I know two moms that lived in Raleigh. One mom left Raleigh because he husband was starting his own contractor business here at Oak Island which was great place to start and another because her husband is in the Coast Guard. Anyways, It is great city life but you can live out the country and travel about maybe 20-45 min into town. Beware I heard their is big population of immigrants because their are still farmers around the Raliegh area. I don't know the cost of living. But you could get more info in the Raliegh thread.

As someone in the engineering field who has moved from Raleigh to Hampton Roads, I recommend making the move to Raleigh. However, I do agree with the poster that mentioned heavy competition finding a job in IT. Raleigh's job market seems more diverse and not overly dependent on the tourist industry and defense jobs.
