I almost cried when I read your post! That's the same thing that happened to us and the reason we're moving there. I am also moving so we can keep our pets. I couldn't afford a home here in NJ and to move to an apartment after living in a house would be $100 more each pet to keep them. Plus it would be hard on them and us to have no yard to be in. To get rid of them would be signing a death warrent because the are older and our dog is a one family dog.
So we're making the move to affordable housing for ourselves and our pets.
Dawn

My job is located in Garner, so we're moving to the Johnston County area just outside of Wake County and 30min from Garner. We want the open spaces that are provided there.
We originally looked in Franklin County because the area was the first we came to and it's very pretty. (yeah I know that's not a super great reason LOL)
The houses were priced in our range and had some property with them that was what we were looking for. Some of them also had the rent to own option, which we thought was nice just in case.
We switched to Johnston county after seeing Raliegh for the first time and all the lights and knowing that the hour drive to work, would really be longer.

Do you have a job lined up in the area yet? I'm not sure a mortgage company will give you a mortgage without one. That's how it seemed to me. They need a letter from my company saying I'll have a job when I get there and how much I'll make at it.
I'll be glad to share any info with you I have, even though it's limited. I just know I want a home of my own so no one will ever tell me they're selling it on me again (unless of course I don't pay for it and I forclose) but that would be my own fault.
It's a horrible feeling to lose your home and not have done anything wrong to have caused it to happen isn't it.
Dawn
