Ahoskie is a really small town. My parents are from Colorado, and you are going to be in for a shock coming from Denver. Big time.

Denver to Ahoskie? Geesh! I was born and raised in lil Ahoskie, population about 4500 or so. It is extremely rural and there is nothing there to do unless you like to fish and hunt. The economy is pretty bad and the socio-economic conditions are not pretty either. There is little retail in Ahoskie except one of the big chains - one Walmart, one Burger King, McDonalds, etc. I enjoy going there to visit my family but love coming back home. Most folks travel an hour to get a mall to do their shopping. If you love rural america this may be for you but I would visit first to be sure.

That was not really the question. Where should this person look to live? From the map, it looks as though there are no larger towns around. Any areas you all would recommend?

OP, I will be out that way in a few weeks, I can look around and report back!

Maybe this is a dumb answer, but why not live there? Do you have children? Is there a problem with the schools there?

Most schools in Hertford County are quite bad actually. If I had a child I would home school or send to private if possible.

LOL, good point! Now that I re-read the OP's post, it seems they may be looking for neighborhood advice!

Any ideas?

Ahoskie is such a rural town that you may actually have a problem online finding something. Ahoskie's population is only about 4500 and believe it or not is the largest town in the county.

I looked up the town specifically on Realtor.com and found pages of listings IN the town......I've never been there but was curious to see what was out there. Sure there were some trailers for sale for 15 k but there seemed to be plenty of nicer homes as well.
