Default Do you need your S.S card to replace your out of state license

Hello,

I want to take my test to replace my out of state license for a NC license tomorrow but I'm afraid they might require me to bring my Social Security Card which is lost somewhere in all my stuff back in CT.

What is it used for exactly? Just to show proof of legalization? Can I use a certificate of citizenship instead? I have proof of resident, proof of medical insurance, and proof of identity and I know my S.S number..

What EXACTLY do I need to bring and what can I use something in alternation of a S.S card.

Mine was issued in 1970...what is left of it...though it was laminated (way back in the day) DMV accepted it...

Heck, I've had to provide my SS Card for every job I've been hired for. So you absolutely have to have it anyway.

You will need 4 items. This information is found on the NC DOT website and in the NC Drivers handbook.
1. Out of state DL, so to avoid retaking the road test.
2.SS Card with full name. (one of these must have your full name with first, middle and last name) no initials.
3.Insurance to prove financial responsibility. Not health insurance; Vehicle insurance
4 Proof of residency; bank statement with name and address, utility bill, etc..

There are ways around the last two, but not the first two.
BTW- you may go to the SSA and apply for another SS card, it will take two weeks to get to you so prepare in advance. Also, you have 60 days to complete this stuff so get a move on it.
More notes, if your name is different from that of your out of state d/l, be prepared to show proof of the change. IE. marriage certificate from the US, divorce decree and amended SS card or statement from SSA.

I would like to add this note: you may in some cases be able to take the test, however you will only have your application built and most likely will not be allowed to take your photo or recieve a temporary 20 day D/L certificate until you show the examiner your SS card. This of course is up to the discretion of the DMV agent you see at the counter. Please bring your documents and a smile to the DMV so you can recieve the best information available. ..more fly's with sugar than salt, hope this helps.
