Hmmmm. very good food for thought - Phoenix is not happening for us - were seeking a southern lifestyle - and I really wnat to be back in the arts. Is Charlotte better regardin unemployment? Any other southern suggestions?
They are saying that Texas is "where it's at". Though Texas is probably a mix of "Southern" and "Southwestern". But most of the Texas cities seem to come up on all of the "Best places" lists--Austin, Dallas, San Anto, and even Houston. I would think Dallas would have a big arts scene.
Phoenix has changed over the 20+ years I have lived here. If you’re looking to retire it’s a pretty nice place but the heat, law enforcement and silly immigration laws are putting a big black cloud over the city. Some of the decisions made by local government are embarrassing. No matter how much we vote - they keep putting dummies in office.
Not much culture and I do attend most every play and visited every museum here. No real urban cities where you can walk to a local coffee shop if you wanted to, and I miss that so very much. If you just want to go to work and right back home every day, hang out in over priced nightclubs, or chase athletes around, like to have your body feel like "it's on fire" in the summer (up to 120 degrees on some days), $350-600 and up electric bills, terrible schools and good teachers quitting on the regular due to overly strict school policies that tie the teachers and students hands, and high auto insurance rates.. This here is your kind of town! It was once a wonderful place. sad to say....
I like Texas - visit often, probably Austin the most - but I want to be coastal. Any other suggestions? I am open to all coastal states except Lousiana, Texas, Missippissi and Florida
You're asking for a "big city" with both culture AND that is on the coast; that's not going to be found in the Southeast--maybe Savannah or Charleston? But it sounds like somewhere like San Diego might be more your thing.
If you think the immigration laws in AZ are "silly", then you probably won't like it anywhere in the southeast.
