Since I don't live there yet and am equally intrigued by Davidson and Fort Mill (SC) - does anyone know if South Carolina has the same or similar tax?

I'm not saying I'd move just because of a vehicle tax - but we have to let the politicians know our dislike of this and other policies every way we can.

If you are looking in Davidson hit the houses over the Cabarrus county line, you can even be in that area and be in Iredell county, it kind of runs all into eachother in the backroads. The taxes are cheaper in Cabarrus and Iredell. Davidson will be more. But like I said you can live in that area but you don't have to be in Mecklenberg county.

Thanks. Its something I'm keeping in mind, for sure. I was even looking in the Skybrook development in Huntersville and the agent was telling me that some houses are in Meck and some were in Cabarrus. Especially since I'm single and have no kids, I'm trying to avoid taxes like the plague.
