Great information. The only one thing i am afraid of is crime rate in Fayetteville... Is it something thats very common or like other cities it depends where you live and how much you pay the rent? Can somebody pl. give a picture about this.

I'm not a big fan of Fayetteville, but to answer your question crime is high here. However, I've been living here for years and have not encountered any issues and feel pretty safe most of the time.

Based on my personal experience, the crime rate here is very high. I have been robbed at gunpoint twice since I moved here in 1998. Once in a Walmart parking lot at 9pm and another time while getting my haircut. We can't wait to move away from this area to something that at least feels safer.

I only lived there for 10 mos, last year, but from my experience there are areas where the crime is high and areas where it is not, so I believe that your statement of "where you live and how much you pay the rent" is accurate. While there neither I nor anyone I knew experienced any violent crime--I had a nice house in a nice neighborhood, my kids went to the best public schools and the rare times I went to the mall there I went during the daytime (usually if I wanted to "shop" I went to Raleigh or Durham).

I've lived in the area my entire life. Crime is no worse than anywhere else (and there ARE places with worse crime--Durham comes to mind). Fayetteville has worked hard to shed it's "Fayettenam" image, and we now have a thriving downtown, several museums, lots of restaurants. People who say there's nothing to do aren't looking very hard! The Saturday paper is FULL each weekend of activities coming up for the following week!

Fayetteville is the most run down, ugly, depressing town Ive ever been and Ive been all over the world, including India and the poorest towns in Paraguay.
If you like pawn shops, gun shops, sleezy strip malls and rundown flea markets, Fayetteville is probably the place for you

That is anytown metrpolis USA;
I have been to a lot of small towns in the southeast and they are just as depressing rundown, gang and drug infesting, it's not the place it's the society we live in; people don't care anymore baby boomers are aging, and this new aged
generation, are preoccupied with technical gadgets like blackberry phones, Ipods, and could care less for anyone else, very self-centered.
I've seen the best areas go to pot, because of this...
The most depressing place that I have been is Anderson County SC

You may want to look at the other side of Ft Bragg, Southern Pines and Aberdeen. The house prices would fit and the area is very nice. You can commute into the base from the Sothern Pines end, the line might be a little shorter so the time about the same.
