Default Development in NC - Pinehurst Area

My husband is in SFH construction and we were told that there is a lot of development going on in North Carolina, is this true. Judging by the amount of people I hear are planing to move to NC, I am sure there will be. We are currently living in Virginia and there is not much development going on here anymore. Unless we go to Northern, VA...no thank you! South is where I want to go. I prefer to live in the smaller town, less developed areas. I know the irony considering what my husband does for a living. We have always planed to head to NC to retire, my husband is a big fisherman. I hear Southern Pines might be a good area to live where we can be fairly close to places that might be developing. I do have children 2 elementary age and 2 high school age. This is a very important issue to me. We also have horses and other farm animals. Any comments or ideas on this would be appreciated??

Yes, there is a lot of developement in SP, Pinehurst, and the surrounding area. Along with golfers, retirees, and the "horsey set" there is also the small matter of Ft. Bragg expanding by 20,000 soldiers. Although this area is considered "rural", It is becoming "the" place. In it's truly rural areas, horses and livestock are welcome. All within 10/15 minutes of a fine hospital, doctors, schools, and shopping. Multiple "developements" have started and are in the planning stages. Golf course homes and Equestrian developements never stop building. Too many to list!
Ft. Bragg developers are building 2500-3500 unit developements to house military families.
So the answer would be yes, there is a lot of construction in this area

do you have any advice as to which direction to start looking for a place to rent with our animals and such?? We are trying to get settled there before school starts and have not had a chance to get down there and look! I know that is a big bill to fill. I have looked at some of the newspapers in the area that are online but that is not much.

Wow, you're cutting it close. School starts in August. You are going to need a real estate agent. There are homes for rent that will accept horses and farm animals, but you'll need a agent to find them. Carthage, Cameron, Vass would be my suggestions on where to look for that type of rental. They are in the northern part of Moore County. There are areas that I would not recommend. Be careful!

Union County is the 13th fastest growing county in the country cause of it being right on the borders of Charlotte. The Schools are great and theirs still rural areas for your horses.

I know, cutting it close is the story of my life.......
I would love to know what areas you do not recommend though. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I am going at this blindly...credit is not good either so a real estate agency is probably out of the question. Work has been scarce around here for about a year.

Moore County (Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Vass, Carthage, Pinebluff, etc.) I have lived in Moore County NC for 9 years, and just moved to Northern VA...and I hate it here...LOL!
Southern Pines in BEAUTIFUL. Good for horses, fishing, nature, arts, everything. You can't go wrong there.
Aberdeen Elementary is NOT a good school. My daughter, whom is in the 1st grade, went to Vass-Lakeview Elementary..in Vass, NC and it is the BEST school in Moore County.
Pinecrest High School is HORRIBLE, speaking from experience, considering I am only 24.
I would put my high school kids in Union Pines or North Moore.
I would recommend it!

Do you get to choose where your kids go to school in NC? I was planning to enroll my kids this week, 2 in HS and 1 in Elm....I had heard some good things about Pinecrest...what didn't you like about it?

Wow, woodbridge...while there are some wonderful places in Va to live...Woodbridge is not one of them. I am sorry!! LOL!!
