I would recommend Franklin and Southern Granville counties...reasonably convenient to RDU, shopping nearby, lots of beautiful land!!!

Two neighborhoods with homesites available in large tracts (10 acres or more) are The Homeplace, located in Union County and The Farms @ Willoughby. The commute would be less than an hour, of course, that is depending on traffic, to the airport. It's a beautiful area and it's nice that the land is located in a "neighborhood". Uwharrie National Forest is a very active horseback trail riding area. You can contact 4B Farm and Horse Camp (910-572-2267) to visit and stay in a cabin to look at the area. It is very rural, not very expensive and lots of horses.
