Post Seeking Information about Rockingham County

I am planning to retire in three years. I have researched much of North Carolina but know little of this area.....Eden, Reidsville ect....I have viewed some real estate and am encouraged by the reasonable prices......I currently live in Newtown , Connecticut ( Fairfield County) The area is beautiful however retiring here is out of the question as my wife and I would have to continue to work far more than we would like........I have this far fetched dream of only working because I want to...... At any rate, if anyone has information about this area re: Real Estate, Health Care, recreational activities ect please venture forth. My wife ,myself and our American Eskimo dog are quiet respectful Americans who truly seek peace and quiet as we enter this phase of our lives . Thanks.

Rockingham county is very rural and has been hit hard by the outsourcing of the textile industries. Eden is particularly economically depressed and depressing, IMO. Thus the lower prices. Same with Madison. I couldn't live in either place.

Reidsville is nicer but there isn't much there.

I strongly suggest that you take a good, hard look around these areas in person. It won't take you long to figure out what's going on with them. The Belews area is nice, but pricier, and I think most of it is in Forsyth county, not Rockingham. Some of it may be in Guilford county.

The better parts of Rockingham, (IMO) are close to NW Greensboro. Even then, I suspect you may experience some culture shock, but at least you'll be close to amenities, like shopping, better medical care, good restaurants, etc.

I agree with Cassie (and I live very close to the Guilford/Rockingham county line).

If you're looking for peace and quiet, you will find it in Rockingham County. If you're looking for anything else ...

Yeppers. That about sums it up.

We must be almost neighbors, btw. We live very close to the Guilford/Rockingham county line too. We do love the peace and privacy and our land in the country. We love watching the deer drink from the stream and the blue heron who fishes there but the proximity to amenities was a big factor in our buying here. We'd done enough driving to last us a lifetime when we lived in NoVA.
