Long story, but I'm wanting to buy a 1978 Firebird in Georgia.
The guy who has it says he doesn't need a title in GA because it's older than a 1986.
He talked to the GA DMV and the say all we need is a bill of sale and then i can apply for a title here. BUT I talked to the NC DMV and they say he needs to apply for a lost title and then sign it over to me....
I'm very confused Has anyone dealt with a situation like this before?

Check DMV. I believe you need to post a bond (not sure if it is $500 or so) and jump though a few hoops to clear the vehicle.

Can't get a duplicate??

If there is no title and you can't get in touch with the previous owner to obtain one, you can still title the car in your name. The only way to do this is through an indemnity bond. Call the DMV's customer service office at (919) 715-7000 or contact a DMV customer representative online to ask the DMV to e-mail you the requirements and paperwork for the bond.

Thanks....I'll have to give them a call.
This car may be more trouble than it's worth.
