Outside of Mount Airy you can see the grave of Eng and Chang Bunker, the original "siamese" twins.

The "Vander Light" right outside of Fayetteville. Supposedly a long time ago a passenger lost his head and legend has it he holds a lantern up and searches for his missing head along the tracks.

Default The Brown Mountain Lights

One of the most famous mysteries are the Brown Mountain Lights seen from Wiseman's View off the Blue Ridge Parkway. As you look down towards Brown Mountain, reddish or bluish lights appear and move up and down. They have been investigated for over 100 years and to this day, no one knows what they are.

While not spooky or tacky, the Virginia Creeper Trail (that I think starts in NC, but runs to Damascus, VA) is one of the GREAT things to do while in NC. It is 25 or so miles of DOWNHILL bike trial down an old logging track. Part of it follows a creek (beautiful, with trout) and there are many many trestles.

It is an absolute MUST DO. You can rent bikes from the folks that take you to the top. A very good trip would be to go up Friday evening (about 2 1/2 or so from CLT) ride Sat morning, and then either come back or spend another nite.

If you do not do this you are missing an INCREDIBLE opportunity.

My husband and I were in Beaufort approximately in 1988. I was born in England and came over at an early age. My husband wanted to take a picture of me standing next to the grave. As he was adjusting the camera I said "Alright British soldier I'm a British woman so stand to attention!" Well he did.......After the film was developed this mist was standing next to me perfectly straight. My husband was shocked when he saw it because he said there was no mist when he took the picture.
