Personally, I cant get a handle on the southern thing, especially the area I am in. The beaches arent too far away but they arent as nice as up north, they are dirty and the ppl are not as friendly as I had heard. They dont really like educated women who have a voice. I would seriously research and visit where you are thinking of in NC, before any kind of move. The only place Ive heard good things about is close to Asheville and the Blueridge Mtns. Luckily, we are in the military, and will be leaving soon. Ive never been so unhappy in a state, in my life. If you want further info as to why, feel free to PM me. I dont want to upset anyone that likes it here. Good luck to you! I cant WAIT to get out of NC!

If you're in a military town, I'm not at all surprised that you're not happy. I have a great love for North Carolina, but I would hate to live in or near Fayetteville, Jacksonville or Goldsboro.

I personally love NC's beaches. All the one's I've been to have been clean and beautiful.

I know you know this, but when I was in the military, we had so many people that hated NC. Id tell them remember this is a military town, you have people from ALL over the country here.

Its wierd its split 50 50 how many people love it here and hate it here.

The national trend seems to be go South, and NC is the focal point. Hence alot of problems with crowded schools and roads, etc..I think you were more upset by the people here, possibly rude and unfriendly?

I read in the Charlotte Observer a few months ago that many newcomers hated the way Southerners drove. I laughed, I thought you know most of these people are probably from the same state they came from and they blame it on the locals!

Sorry you had a bad stay though.

Ironic....I'm NC born and raised but if was ever given the opportunity to move to Manhattan, Seattle, San Fran, Chicago, Vancouver, DC, Toronto or Boston, I'd probably jump at the chance.

To each their own.

You have the opportunity every day that you are alive, you just need to take it.

Seattle Chicago and Vancouver aren't THAT expensive. At least not compaired to the others. Also, take it from someone who has been to Toronto many times and lived accross the lake from it; it's not that impressive. It definitely doesn't feel like it's a city as big as it is. Pretty bland in fact.

I'minformed, for the sake of you and your family I hope your move is imminent. I can tell you that I and I'm sure others are tired of your whoa is me sentiment. Your jumping to be the first responder to this thread bears me out.

carolina native, I hear what you're saying, I do. Its just that Ive tried so very hard to get along here and it didnt happen for me. I will look back on this time w/some bittersweet memories. Its different for the military in general, but I would have preferred to be in the western part of the state, if anywhere in NC. I didnt care for the beaches but I had a couple of bad experiences there as well. The ppl in general have horrible attitudes here in Fay. b/c its not truly a melting pot like NY is. The cultures dont "blend" in well, here and there is racism and segregation that Im not used to. So.....that was my experience. I certainly tried to turn it around, especially b/c DH is gone so much. But it didnt work for this gal, is all.......

I'm sorry that you get "beared out" by something as silly as an internet forum. That is quite sad. Seriously though; we're all adults here. Your personal insults stike me as very immature and below the person that I hope (and I'm sure) you really are. First I was "bitter" because "my highschool sweetheart dumped me" (we've actually been married for over 20 years), and now this?

Default I love it here.

I have lived in Phoenix, well... Scottsdale, La Jolla, Colorado Springs and grew up in Hastings, Nebraska. (No, not military, just like to move around.) We moved here 3 years ago and we all really like it. You have 4 real seasons, unlike AZ or CO. Everything is soooooo green in the summer. Mountains, beaches, forests and farms... its all here. Sure, people can sometimes be unaccepting of newcomers, but, that's anywhere you go. You can find good neighborhoods everywhere, it just takes time.
