Just a brief history, I am from New York, and currently live in Virginia. I am planning to relocate with my fiancée to NC (where he's from). He likes the country and I am part country part city girl. From what I've seen so far, NC is full of...open space. I want to move to a city that is not too city, like in NY, but not too country where I have to drive 20 miles to everything. I also need a place where it is easy to get a job, and is safe. His job is secured, my field is criminal justice/psychology/teaching. What are some good cities to live, and later (way later) raise a family.

Honestly, no city in NC is "full of jobs" - our unemployment rate is higher than the national average. And the cities with the best chance for jobs (Charlotte and Raleigh) are hardly inexpensive to live in.

Therefore it doesn't really do any good to suggest a place to live. The truth is, you need to see if you can find a job that you are qualified for and be prepared to move there

This is true. You need to find a job where you can find a job, which might not be your ideal place. Otherwise, you need to do your research by visiting places and seeing what has just the "right" mix of country and city, since you seem to want to walk the fine line between the two. NC kind of runs that gamut from rural to urban, but you can't presume you will find a job in any given place, so you should start applying in several areas that interest you, and see where an offer comes.
