Over~crowding!??
Hey all,
I've been looking around a lot...talking to people, this site..etc.
I think we may have missed the boat!
EVERYONE, I talk to is thinking about moving to NC! And EVERYONE I talk to knows at LEAST one person that has moved there...insane!
Now I am hearing in some areas, it has become so overcrowded....the kids will have to be taught in trailers, till the schools are expanded??
So for all of you NC folks....true or false...do you see a lot of over crowding??
Do you feel like you are being invaded?
My main reason for thinking about NC, was for the "southern hospitality" the schools, lower costs in living and a bit of the country life.
Will this all be possible to find next year???(when we intend to move)
The way things sound like they are going....I can see me picking up and moving from NY to NC...opening my front door on morning and realize, I am back in NY....but in NC LOL!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

It is biggest misperception that I keep reading on here. I can understand your feeling but this state is rather large unlike in the north east and soutern florida there is less concentration of high volume of people in one area.
I feel people think that there is nothing but houses stacked on each other and no country side or rural area left and that is far from the case.
Even in the metro areas of Raleigh and Charlotte there is country side, horse farms etc.
Trailers are not some thin narrow non condusive learning enviroment they are built sturdy and rather large but small enough to make a productive learning enviroment. Smaller class size always is better for learning.
Schools have been using trailers since I have been going to school here and I use to love going to class in them due to it was air conditioned and less distractions that a large room can provide.
If you want a nice size home with a acre or more of land the best bet is to move where other people are not.
It is a gorgeous state with various terrain and still affordable housing.
Here is demographics of projected growth for this state from 2010 to 2020
only 14 counties out of 100 counties have higher than national average in growth. I can think of least 5 of those the concentration is only on one part of those counties and not the whole counties as a whole.

It depends where you are coming from. We came from CA and to us, this place is the opposite of crowded! Its a very nice size, we almost never wait in lines and movies, gas stations, or events. Traffic is predictable and not at all bad. My children just started school, and there are a few trailers in the older grades, but they are nice and air conditioned...nothing extreme. I think their class size is 22...and we are in a high growth area (Holly Springs). I do not believe you have missed the boat...its still a relatively small metro area pop wise. Growing fast, having the normal growing pains, but still small enough to be friendly.

Is NC overcrowded? No.
Is Charlotte overcrowded? Yes.
Do we feel like we are being invaded? Yes.
Do we mind? Only when some of the people "invading" begin complaining about everything the minute they get here. Whiners and complainers we really mind.
"The people in NC talk so slow and move even slower",
"There aren't any organic food stores",
"The people in Charlotte were such poor planners that now MY child has to go to school in a trailer",
"People in NC don't know how to drive",
"People in the south are so rude, they actually invite you to visit their church - the nerve- that's a private subject",
"There's no good pizza in NC, they just can't make it like back in NY"
Hopefully you get my drift

I just love it when I hear people rationalizing how great it is to be taught in trailers! Just do this when you visit: Go by North Meck High School. It is a trailer park. Looks trashy. Thats the HS for Huntersville students. Trailers break down, meaning the air and heat, they are small, and heaven forbid when students need a bathroom break or a water fountain. That is just one school here.
I will agree that NC is a huge state, but what difference does it make when everyone is moving to the same locations?

Apparently the trailers must be providing a better learning enviroment
considering North Mecklenburg made 160 of the nations top 1300 high schools

No one is rationalizing how great it is to be taught in trailers. And you are off topic. THIS thread is about overcrowding the NC. The people who have actual experience with their child being in a trailer responded to the trailer issue on that thread - and the consensus was that trailers do not hinder learning.
The point some people are missing is that all the folks flocking here in such huge numbers are the reason some of our schools are overcrowded in the first place. It doesn't seem fair to me that someone should cause a problem, then do nothing but complain that there IS a problem.

CMS schools increase by 5,000 students a year. 20,000 of CMS students are schooled in trailers.
North Meck is bursting at the seams with 3,000 students, and North Meck alone at last count had 69 mobile units.

And your point is? I believe it is a well established fact that N. Meck is the largest public high school in the state. Further evidence that yes, Charlotte is overcrowded.
