York Chester Historic District
Can anyone give me some information on the York Chester Historic District?
Is it close to shopping? How is the crime and the area in general?
Any info. on this area or anyone who has lived there would be greatly
appreciated.
Thank-you

We have some friends that live back there (off Carolina Ave) and it is gorgeous. Lots of old bungalows and restored houses. Most homes built around the 1950's. Lots of family activities there. Not familiar with crime rates in that area; I would call up Gaston County Police Dept, and specifically request a police blotter. We've considered moving back there, as we like the quality of living. Only thing is that schools are not all that great, but our friends send their kids to a Christian School.
Let me know if you find out anything!

York Chester
Thanks for the input!! Well, the schools don't concern me because
I don't have children and my husbands are grown. I was wondering
if this area is close to any towns? I here the area is going through
a revitalization.

I live in York and there is really not much out here. Cheap houses, which is why I moved here...you have Walmart, Lowe's and a couple drug stores. The downtown has small consignment/thrift/antique shops. Not much to speak of.

I wonder then if I would like it there?? I live in the suburbs of Philly.
Is there anything to do there? I was also reading about all the crime
at the malls! We don't have that here but then again the crime rate
in Philly is one of the worst in the nation right now. I guess good and
bad everywhere. I keep picturing this picturesque town - Norman
Rockwell like! Maybe I'm smokin too much crack......lol! I guess the
only way to see if it's a fit is to come down there myself. I know
the housing is much more affordable, but you must "like" the area and
the surroundings before you make a big move like that. I am so undecided.
I am 2 hours from the shore and 2 hours from the mountains and 3 hrs from
D.C. but I also love small town living. Guess I'll have to just wait and see!

York Chester is in Gastonia. There are many stores and restaurants nearby.

York/Chester is in Gastonia, NC, which is in Gaston County. Here's a website I found:
York Chester Neiborhood Association (broken link)
Gaston County housing is more affordable, plus it's right smack dab next to Charlotte, which has everything you could possible need from culture, dining, entertainment, etc. It's a little more countrified....Less traffic hassle as well. This particular area has been undergoing some revitilization, yes. It's a nice little area. There are a few mom and pop stores nearby, antique stores (some look a little run down) there is also Walmart, Lowes Foods (nice grocery store chain). That's about it. If you want to hit more shopping areas, more major shopping chains such as Kohls, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc. head on I-85 North Gastonia/Cox Road. Crime isn't bad there, but I have only shopped in that area during the day. Eastridge Mall is nice. You can go to the swankier malls such as Southpark in Charlotte. Guess you would have to keep an eye out and be aware of your surroundings IF you do shop at night, so I think that goes along the lines wherever you go. Gastonia also has some other older neighborhoods, (such as Brookwood) but you'd really have to visit here and drive around, and get yourself a good agent. We've worked with Allen Tate Realtors; they're really good.
Good luck!

Kimbey - you need to visit. That's the first step in this process, once you visit, we'd need to get you to York/Chester area of gastonia.
