[Whhhhhhhaaaaat???
I cant believe this park is that big!!Where the heck can a place like that hide?? I was told it was an inside pool on Kool Park rd and I drove up and down the whole street and didnt see anything but what you would see on any other country road.
Does anyone know exactly what this place is near? Is it close to Springs rd or what? It looks great. I guess I can look it up in the phone book and call them. That is unbelievable, wow. Thanks NC mom!!!

We just went to Kool Park last week for the 2nd time.
It is great, but very expensive. The hours are 10-6 all week. 12 and old is 11.00, under 12 is $7.00.
Here is the trick, they lower pricesd after 3:00p.m. every day. So 12 and older pays $7.00 and 12 and younger after 3:00 pay $3.50.
It is a little bit expensive.
I love the area, but am extremely disappointed with the swimming options. We have two pools here in Alexander County, and both charge for the first year $400 for all the fees, after that they are both approx. $225 for the summer thereafter.
We went to Wilson Creek, it is beautiful, but not somewhere I would go alone with the kids again.
We did encounter alot of snakes, in and out of the water, so I packed up and left right away.
If anyone else knows a good place with no snakes, let us know.
We live 10 min. from Hiddenite Campground, and they have a pool, river, picnic tables and such.
There is also another place here in Taylorsville with water slides, picnic tables and swimming, it's on All Healing Springs Road, much cheaper than Kool Park, and fun, but here is the catch, the water comes in fron the Springs, and it is freezing.

What do you get for $11? I couldn't find a website, the pictures look like the kids are having fun, but how many slides are there? Is there a wave pool? Lazy river? That seems overly pricey to me. You can go to Carowinds and pay a little more, but get more too.
Yikes! The price of the community pools are outrageous! Don't they have drop-in rate, like $2 a visit? That is ridiculous. Does anyone know if Hickory/Newton is the same as Taylorsville? I think it would be better to get an above ground pool and build a deck. How do others feel about this? Do people really pay the $400? How many months out of the year can you actually use it? Sorry, shell shock : ) I'm moving to the area in September so I guess I will miss the swim season, but I think we have some research to do in preparation for next summer...

Another option is to join the Y. My family membership breaks down to $15 a week--well worth it in the summer with the pool.

Just to add......
It is only half price after 3 on Monday thru Friday. They are very rigid with this too. I dropped my child off to swim with a few friends today after 3 and had to pay full price for 2 1/2 hours.
Also they make no allowance for non swimming adults who are merely there to supervise children. There was an older lady sitting on the wall outside the gates who had come to spend some time watching her fourteen year old granddaughter have some fun. They would not let her in without paying full price which was beyond her budget. Seems a little mean to me! It would be nice if they had a nominal charge for those adults who drive children there but who are obviously not going to swim.

About 10 miles south of Statesville, there is a place called Lake Norman Campground. It's inside the state park, and pretty easy to find. They have a swim area in the lake, and it's free to use, you don't need to have a campsite to use it. There is picnic tables with grills, some are in the sun, but most of them are in the shade. The swim area is pretty big, I think the deepest is like 6 feet. There is barely any critters in the lake, except for the occasional fish, so no need to worry about getting bitten. It's kind of like a beach, with the sandy shore and all. It opens at 10:00 A.M and closes about 6:00 P.M. There is also a fishing pier real close to the swimming area, and there is many more around the park. They also have a place where you can rent paddle boats and canoes really cheap. It would make a great day trip, and the fishing spots are great!
