For the record the "pot of gold" comment wasn't directed toward you. It was directed toward the poster who thought that she could move to NC and apply for unemployment simply because her husband has a job in the state. It was implicit from her question that she doesn't understand what unemployment insurance is all about.

I have been wondering this too. My husband may get a new job in NC, so I was wondering if that would qualify me for unemployment benefits.

How is that not a "freebie?"

I do not feel it is a freebie as I was just wondering if I would be eligible as I would not be quitting my job without any reason. I am a professional who has worked for the same company for over 10 years, so, again, I do not appreciate my integrity being questioned.
I am no longer going to continue this debate. I have said what I needed to. It is obvious to me, from your other posts, that you are generally an unhappy person who feels they need to disagree with most people on here. Have fun with that - I'm done.

I guess the question on the posters mind may be why you're looking at ue insurance vs. finding a new job until something in your specialty pans out

I don't look a that as a " freebie" Everyone that pays into the system by working steady for ones employer is eligible..Now the discussion is about if one is qualified.. As I mentioned, My friend was found qualified, as she had to quit her job due to a spouces job transfer..We are wondering if that is still true and if It is, there is no reason not to collect it.. THAT is what is there for..That's all.. Nobody is looking for a freebie...If NYS will pay, then they don't look at it as a freebie either..
We just want to know what the laws are...

response to NY benefits once you move out of state
I was laid off early January while being employed in New York State, moved to southern florida and have been getting regular unemployment, and then extended benefits now.
If you worked in New York and let go in New York, you should go to their unemployment site and call their out of state phone number, It's easy
Good Luck
Dont move to Florida, Dollar tree pays $8.00 an hour for Assistant Manager
positions. Insulting pay. No manufacturing and so much empty land to build and yet not destroy wildlife.

actually, you do qualify for unemployment benefits if your spouse is relocated for work. you may have to fill out more paperwork and submit proof, but you will most likely qualify. definitely file a claim.

I think it is fair ask, on the issue. I would state it will be an uphill battle, First off you must prove hardship and that is very specific. A spouse taking a new job in another state by his or her choice will not get it done. A forced transfer of primary house hold earner might if you can prove no other options could have been taken. Also remember the company you worked for can challenge the unemployement claim. General hardships are the same as if you wanted to yank money from your 401 k with out paying penalties to the fed gov. Medical issues, Family care issues are the main factor. They will not pay if they dont have to and to makeit simple you would have to prove it was beyond your control and not a personal choice.
