So you aren't retiring? You need to work?

Have you obtained a work visa? Not as easy of a process as you apparently think I'm afraid. Maybe you are applying for citizenship and want a green card? I thought the wait on that was several years though, so I'm really confused by what you are trying to do.

Souplantation the restaurant? Or a big farm where they grow soup? If you mean the restaurant, it's called Sweet Tomatoes in NC. There are two, and you will find both of them in Raleigh, which is a lot more than an hour from the beach.

First you'd better check on the work situation, if you do need a job.

I have found the NC lifestyle to be the closest to Australian life of all the states I have been in (49). Slower paced, friendly people, mild winters. Especially small town Australia - obviously there is nothing like a Melbourne or a Sydney in NC. Finding a nice place close to the water will be your challenge, maybe poke around in the Coastal North Carolina forum. If it helps Raleigh, NC does have it's own Aussie Rules football team.

And coming from Tassie you will already be used to all the jokes about Southern people!

OKAY, thanks for filling in that gap - was wondering how you planned to just move here!

If your spouse is an American surely they have an opinion on the best place for ya'll to live? What is her/his opinion?
