Default Pleeze help!!

I am a African American singlemother/LPN, trying to relocate from Rochester,NY to NC. I am considering Greensboro, Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte, and Concord. The problem is I don't know anyone down that way. I in need for info on schools, affordable housing, crime rate, utlities, weather, and most important decent jobs for my field( nursing homes etc.). I am very nervous but excited. I will be taking some 2-3 day trips within the next few months. My move won't take place until March 08.
Thanks--
Worried from the ROC

I use to work in Britthaven's nursing homes in the eastern part of the state as well as Raleigh. I am a LPN as well. There are also some Guardian Care ones although I believe they might be called Hillhaven or something like that now. Of course in Raleigh there is Wake Medical Center, Rex Hospital and Raleigh Community Hospital or there was when I worked there some 20 years ago. I don't know much about the other areas you are interested in.
Good luck and welcome to North Carolina.

hello sunshiyne75,
I'm in the same predicament. I'm torn between Charlotte and Raleigh - as of this point I'm leaning toward Charlotte. I'm not sure why, maybe it's just God's plan. I have a friend that moved there and started teaching (actually she moved to Mooresville - outside of Charlotte). She is going to help me choose a school for my daughter (I'm also a single-mom). My friend just passed the bar so she's joining a law firm but she's still well connected in the educational field. I'll let you know what she tells me. I know that can be a stressful issue. I've been going to this website:

School Profile - School Level

You can find out a school's performance rating there. I have family in Chapel Hill (Raleigh area) and Greensboro. I will be visiting there next month. I'm going to check out a few communities - pm me and I'll let you know what I find out if you'd like. My move will hopefully take place 06/08 (depending on my house here selling). I'm probably in the same place mentally as you are - excited and nervous! Well, keep in touch - and pm me and I'll let you know what I find out - Good luck!

Default good choices

as the other person said, you have some good choices.you should look online tat some of the newspapers in those areas and call some of the classifieds and ask questions.you should also try if you can to set your date for your test to transfer your lpn license before you move because sometimes it can take up to 3 months before you get a date.n.c. is not what it use to be umless you buy or rent in the country.it is building up everywhere..

Please do some reading, you chose to say you were african american. Attitudes here in NC is so very different then in NY. Lived in NC 10 yr now - moved from upstate. Prejudice and ignorance is quite alive down here. At least in Johnston and Harnett which neighbors raleigh's wake county.
Greensboro seemed quite high in crime and charlotte I just dont know. Most people (30+) raised here believe in the OLD ways.
