Default Hiddenite to Hickory
We moved to Hiddenite and have been taking 16 south into Conover and picking up Route 40 at Exit 131 to go to Hickory. Yesterday,in the Hickory Paper we read that the state closed exit 131. How do we pick up route 40 now?

I was looking at MapQuest.Com: Maps, Directions and More and note that there is a branch from 16 down to exit 132 (Thornburg Dr). I did some research and see articles about the impact - how businesses at that soon-to-be-defunct exit will suffer - but it's not like you will be cut off from access to I-40. Congress members Libby Dole and Patrick McHenry have written to Gov. Easley, asking for a reprieve. You might want to go thru them to see if a petition exists for locals to add their voice.
