I think it is this weekend and you get to shop for school related supplies up to a certain price at participating locations (Best Buy in Cary) and you pay not state tax from what I understand........I would say a 50 inch 1080p plasma would be great for my "sons" education

Sorry to break it to ya, tluv00, but you'll still have to pay taxes on that TV!

Edited to add:
Here's a website from the NC Department of Revenue with all the info.

Cool! I forgot all about this! No taxes on "back to school items".
AND IT'S THIS WEEKEND!!! (Friday-Sunday)

.S. 105-164.13C provides an exemption for certain items of tangible personal property sold between 12:01 A.M. on the first Friday in August and 11:59 P.M. the following Sunday. For 2007, the dates are Friday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 5th. Clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item; sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item, computers of $3,500 or less per item; and computer supplies of $250 or less per item will be exempt.

Clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, protective equipment, wallets, furniture, items used in a trade or business, and rentals are not covered by the exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax.
