Growing up, I hated raking leaves and cutting the grass, and had to do both every week.

Anyway, one day I said "why do I have to rake the leaves, they are only going to fall off the tree again". He replied, "why do you eat? You're only going to get hungry again."

Later on, I realize I was fortunate that was the worst of the response I could've gotten

[quote=Weis02;76173]Dianalee - Take the red dot with a grain of salt - the red dot police is out - if someone has so much time to make a bad rep for these petty things, use the ignore option _ thanks cassie, mine is getting better ]

You're very welcome, Weis My personal favorite red dot came along with the question "are you retarded?" ROTFL! The forum "ignore" feature is wonderful. It took me a while to figure out how to use it but it's great for blocking out people who have nothing productive to do with their time.

I do find it amusing, that generally speaking, ( not directed at anyone) the people who complain the most about red dots are the worst offenders, IMO. No way they'll ever figure that out, though.

Regards,

Cassie

The thing that my mom always said (which usually just frustrated us further) when we would ask Why? (generally when we had to do something that we didn't want to) he response was always "Y is a crooked letter"

I can think of a few, but I know there are tons more.

What my parents/grandparents say - What it really means

"I suwannee" - I can't believe it
"My law" - This is upsetting
"I declare" - I can't believe it
"Golly Moses" - What misfortune

"Over yonder" - over there

"You're actin' too big for your britches" - you are challenging authority
"Like a bump on a log." - like a lazy person
"In high cotton." - in good fortune
"Pack a nabs" - crackers
"Fillin station" - Gas station

"I'll put somethin on you Ajax won't take off" - I am about to be upset.
"I'll wear you out!" - I am about to be upset.

"You couldn't fight your way out of a wet paper bag" - You can't fight/You are weak

LOL! Aww... thanks Weis!

Come to think of it, I think I posted a National Guard question here once! Guess they were out doing something important that day.

Cheers,
Diana

Argh! More bad reps!

Nash County... in between Raleigh and Rocky Mount (Rocky Mount is split between Nash and Edgecombe)...this is North Carolina. If I wanted regional Georgia sayings I would have posted in the Georgia forum. But I want North Carolina sayings. So what's the beef??? Please be nice...I'm not hurting anybody here. I wuv y'all!

(And I'm praying about that tropical storm churning up your way... EEK! I was up there when Alberto came through. Just that amount of rain and I could see the fields flooding pretty bad. Of course, parts of Nash County are pretty low elevation...)

Cheers,
Diana

Which reminds me! When I was up there (and Alberto was dumping a lot of rain), I spent the day in the library in Rocky Mount, and I heard a nice lady there refer to one of the librarians as being "no bigger than a minute." Love it!

Diana,
We're native North Carolinians and my mom used to say something that would tickle me when I was younger.....

"Shoot fire to save matches!"
She would say it when she was really "hoppin' mad!"

I imagine the "shoot" could have been used with another s-word, but she was just too fine a southern lady to use such language.

This could be used all over, but I swear I've never heard anyone else say it, with the exception of my grandmother who grew up south of Raleigh.

That's all I could think of thus far...many that I had thought of had already been used.

HTH,
Nicole
