Hey there,

My wife and I leased a Honda in NC. The lease recently ended, but I had to get a grace period extension of a week to get the car inspected before turning it in. Honda Financial then told us that we owed them $200 in taxes for this coming year, even though we only had the car an extra week.

Is there anything we can do to not have to pay that? Or to only pay some small fraction? It seems fundamentally unfair to have to pay for the whole year when we don't have use or possession of the car in any capacity.

Thanks for your help

I've leased a few cars in my life. And I've found that sometime within the following year (after the lease expiration and the car's been turned in or traded) they'll do some sort of audit on the closure of the lease. Then, you'll get a refund check, pro-rated for the time you had possession of the vehicle.

I don't lease anymore. ;-)
