You'd still be close to everything, but you would be away from all the BS of living in America's #1 hot spot. Plus, when NASCAR comes to town you wont have to deal with the sudden influx of people. That is, of course, going to depend on where you work also. Thats just me, Im a simple kind of man.
Do you know of any good beaches? I know it will be cool when we visit in November, but, we would like to see the ocean. Is Charleston THE place to visit or are there other places too? Will it be hard to get through the mountains in a mobile home...we are all piling in my mom's to head down...

Outer Banks. http://www.nps.gov/caha/index.htm

Motorhome is fine if you stay on the main roads. Not so fine if you wander off on to gravel, dirt or unmarked roads.

If you're planning on visiting Charleston, there are beaches 15 minutes away at Folly Beach, Sullivans Island, and the Isle of Palms. Charleston is very old and historic, and more of a classy place. Night life is big there, but it's more expensive there than the alternatives. It probably isn't the best choice to entertain children, either.

If you want a quiet fishing/beach town, Holden Beach, NC and Edisto Beach, SC come to mind.

Anywhere on the SC grand strand (Pawley's Island, all the way north to Cherry Grove) will have good beaches, and things to do. I always went to Litchfield Beach growing up. Surfside Beach and Garden City Beach are good choices too. And of course, you've always got Myrtle Beach.

The only NC beaches I've been to are Sunset Beach and Holden Beach, and both seemed pretty nice.

"New Yorker" isn't a race. And Dutch Fork schools are not the best in the state by a long, long shot.

Go spread your propaganda somewhere else.
