You cannot have a concealed gun in your car (not sure if it matters whether loaded or not) e.g. in an unlocked glove-box, under seat etc. It 's ok to have it in the trunk but that wouldn't be much use to you, would it.
If you want to carry concealed , do a CCH (Concealed Carry handgun) course at an authorized training center and apply to the sheriff, pay your $$, wait 6 weeks or so and you can carry concealed no problem.
Hope that helps ( I just went through the process)
Steve's got it dead on!

Can I ask a related question: why does the Town Hall building have a 'No Concealed Carry' sign on the door? Because one is supposed to display one's weapon? Or?

This was in Hillsborough, iirc.

Thanks!

Some locations and establishments do not permit firearms on the premises even with a valid permit. See Section III-D (AREAS WHERE WEAPONS ARE PROHIBITED) in the document I posted earlier in this thread.

LOL... ok, ok you do realize that you just moved to one of the safest cities in the state, perhaps even in the country. I don't know why I found that sentence so amusing. Must be the exhaustion!

Just because a city is labeled "safe" doesn't mean that crime can't or won't happen there. Take for example the lady that was shot at the ATM a few weeks ago in the "safe" city of Cary. Complacency about a city or area being safe quickly can turn the area unsafe.

My credit union says "No Concealed Weapons".

So, whip your piece out and rob the place. Don't hide it in your pants.

Just kidding.
