Question NC Gun Laws

Hello everyone I am new to this site and am fairly new to NC I moved to Cary a month ago and am wondring if they have laws against having a loaded weapon in your car for personal protection. I have been to many sites and there seems to be a grey area around this. Basically they say that you can protect yourself but the gun has to be out on the passangers seat uncovered. Does anyone have a weapon in their car and no concealed permit if so please respond to this and any information you have will be helpfull in making the descision to put mine in my truck.

I would think something as serious as this you might be better off hearing it straight from someone in authority such as State Patrol, and even contacting Cary Police for their input.
You really do not want to get this wrong, and if stopped say....but on the pc message board they said I could.........

You should be able to get a concealed carry permit from the sheriff's office.

You do have to have a concealed weapon permit to have a loaded gun in the car. Otherwise you need to put the weapon outside of reach with ammo in another location. i.e. Weapon in the trunk and ammo in glove box.

I know in Virginia you did not need a CWP to carry a loaded gun in your car or on your person (as long as the gun was visible). I'm not so sure about the NC laws, but this website might help www.packing.org

You can have a loaded gun in your car providing it is in clear view. You can carry a gun on your person providing you are not directly prohibited by law or some other posted restriction. ( You may run the risk of 'Carrying a firearm to the alarm of the public)
You cannot have a concealed gun in your car (not sure if it matters whether loaded or not) e.g. in an unlocked glove-box, under seat etc. It 's ok to have it in the trunk but that wouldn't be much use to you, would it.
If you want to carry concealed , do a CCH (Concealed Carry handgun) course at an authorized training center and apply to the sheriff, pay your $$, wait 6 weeks or so and you can carry concealed no problem.
Hope that helps ( I just went through the process)
