As long as they embrace the southern culture I don't mind them coming here. I left the North 5 years ago and never looked back. And yes, the thought of unsweetened tea makes me want to hurl!
I would say jobs for the most part (for the ones actually living in NC, not the vacationers obviously). I am from Ohio and know a lot of people who have ended up in NC for jobs, mostly teaching jobs. It seems to have been the only place to go for new teachers out of school to find job openings. The weather doesn't hurt either.
And if you're wondering why an Ohioan is reading/responding to this, it's because I'll be "invading" in 4 weeks for graduate school. I've been keeping tabs on you all for a few months! I'm really looking forward to coming your way. I do love Ohio though, don't knock it til you try it!
Not sure why, but a lot of people from Ohio vacation in NC. Also Ohio has a large percentage of their population that joins the military. NC has a lot of military which has brought more and more Ohians and their families as the years go by.
I see lots in the college towns as well. If Duke is the University of New Jersey @ Dueham, then UNC is the University of Ohio at Chapel Hill. Rig up some kind of little biplane to buzz the b-ball games and we can settle the whole OH vs NC Wright Brothers thing while we're at it.
You're seeing so many Ohio plates because Charleston is full and they are turning back around going home.
I recently saw a bumper stick on a truck here locally that said...and I quote (wish I had a camera to have taken a picture of it, but couldn't get to my phone in time)...anyway...it literally said............
Have you been through Toledo, Cincinnatti or Dayton lately?
Outside the Southeast corner of Ohio, it is pretty much bland isn't it?
