Interesting possible trend. The Ikea company opened a factory in Danville, Virginia a couple of years ago. Apparently it was cheaper to make the furniture in the US, for the US market, than it was to make furniture in eastern Europe and ship it. Ikea makes low-end bookcase and coffee tables in Danville paying a starting wage of $8.25, but it has a secondary effect of helping the community. We talked to a couple of teachers who were moving from Wilmington, NC to Danville because ythe Ikea plant had created a need for teaching jobs.

Ekornes make high-end recliner chairs, but the article wasn't clear what the plant would make. I hope it's helpful to the Morganton area.
