Default Looking into La Grange

Can someone please tell me about La Grange!? I am looking to move there. Is it nice? Is it trashy? Are there nicer less violent areas around???

Thanks!

I lived there for a year several years ago. It's a very small town. There are trashy areas (mostly near "downtown"), but it's a lovely, little town. We lived in the country for about a month before moving to town. I think I actually prefer the country there though to the town.

Less violent? I don't recall there being a lot of violence in La Grange. Of course, that was 10 years ago. Though I'd be surprised if such a little town had grown violent so quickly.

You'll be right between Kinston and Goldsboro and there are nice homes in nice areas (mostly country) to live in.

I wish you all the best.

Thanks Niki!
The house I was looking at was on W. Railroad Street. Is that bad at all? Please don't be shy, I have kids and just want the best situation for them! Are there better locations for raising kids?

Thanks!

From what I recall, Railroad St. wasn't really a nice area. I remember there being a really old Victorian or two or three (across the railroad tracks) that could be nice if someone took the time to renovate them. But at the time I lived there (on School St.), it looked run down to me.

Places around 903 (south of town) and into the country were nice when I lived there. I wish I could remember more details for you.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the schools. We didn't have kids when we lived there, so I don't know anything about the schools.

Thanks Niki. One of the Victorians is what I was looking at, but if I go there & it's trashed I'm not going to do it.
Can you tell me some really nice towns around Kinston, if you remember, that's where my husbands job would be. I'm having a really hard time finding that perfect town. I found Walnut Creek, which is perfect for me, but the houses I found were in the $300,000's range. I was looking to stay East of Kinston, but all the nice towns I found there were an hour away from northern Kinston.
Thank you so much for your insight!

I really can't think of any towns north of Kinston before you get to Winterville, which is closer to Greenville than Kinston.

There's some nice country north of Kinston. Or do you just prefer actually being in a town?

Oh, and whatever home you choose, make sure it's a good, strong structure. That part of NC is known as "tornado alley". I don't want to scare you, just hopefully help you be prepared.

There are a couple people here who are more familiar with the Kinston area than I am. Bethany-somebody and iminformed. Maybe they or someone else will help you.

Sorry.

I wish you all the best.

I have lived in La Grange all my life--54 years. It is a great place to live and grow a family. It do have good and bad locations--but the great things about La Grange is--it is a family town. towns north of Kinston: Grifton, Ayden, and Winterville then Greenville.

Might wanna check some houses right off the US-70 exit to lagrange. Very upper-class rural homes.

You may also want to check out Snow Hill and surrounding areas. Pretty rural, but the commute to northern Kinston wouldn't be too bad IMHO.

anything but kinston. Kinston is a mini detroit. I was scared to death when I was driving through town late at night a couple years ago. Definately need to be in rural lenoir county instead of kinston.
