Lumberton, NC Moving (Fayetteville, Fairmont, St. Pauls: apartment, house, to live in)

I am planning to move to Lumberton, NC from October, 2006. I got job there.

Can any comment on following:

1. How safe is lumberton for staying?
2. How good is it for kids education?
2. Are appartments/ house available on rent?

Please help us find a nice and laid back area to move to. My husband has accepted a nursing job in Lumberton NC. We are looking to move to the area. We have no idea of where to look. Which of the surrounding cities are best in terms of safty, communt, apartment. We are actually looking to live in a different county and not Robeson County. We are looking for areas 20-30miles from lumberton.
We are moving from Philadelphia PA.

Nearest cities: Barker Ten Mile, NC (4.0 miles ), Proctorville, NC (10.6 miles) , Orrum, NC (11.2 miles) , Fairmont, NC (11.4 miles ), Butters, NC (12.4 miles ), McDonald, NC (12.4 miles) , St. Pauls, NC (12.7 miles ), Raynham, NC (12.8 miles)

All the towns anywhere near Lumberton are very small with the exception of Fayetteville, 30 miles north of Lumberton. After you try the links recenty suggested by nims and one I DMed to you, go to the Rural and Small Town thread in this NC Forum and there will be more help for you.
