Is there a big difference in insurance rates between different insurance companies? I had full coverage before I moved here for less than $100 from allstate for one car but when I went to renew my policy with my new address I learned that NC's equivalent to "no fault" <or not full coverage> is super cheap so I think I'm gonna go with that if it comes with roadside assistance. I know when I bought this policy there was huge differences between different insurance companies for the same coverage. Does anyone have any suggestions for insurance companies that give the lowest rates for this kind of coverage? (or does it make a difference?) Thanks.

Yes different rates for different companies. Some offer discounts if multiple drivers with same insurance company, driving record, etc

Shop, shop,and shop around.

cool thanks alot. I wasn't sure if it'd be cheaper to go through internet or get an agent. It seems like if you cut out the middle man you'd save more but then again those middle men should know which options you don't necessarily need and save you money that way. I will check out geico thoough.

An agent definitely will save you money, it doesn't cost you anything to use them. There is no middle man, the agent at geico will also make a commission, it is just the cost of business. But the agent at geico can only offer you Geico, while and independent agent can shop around to 15+ companies. There is no one company that is best, as Sunny said, it all depends on your individual risk factors. If you are a super preferred customer, Geico or Nationwide might be terrible for you, but it might be the right fit for someone with a ticket or two. Farm Bureau is great with someone with not so great credit. Kemper is the best for someone with great credit and two drivers/two cars. It all depends... and a good agent will find the company with the right "appetite" for you.
Feel free to shop on the internet, but PLEASE don't purchase insurance without speaking with an agent, I can't tell you how many customers I have seen do this and have terrible policies because they didn't know what they were doing.
