How much does a fishing license cost in NC? Do you need any special stamps? Where is the best place to get one?

If I remember correctly you can fish in your county of residence without a license as long as you use live bait (no lures, etc.). Might want to verify that with a local game warden or the site that was just posted.

I think that got changed and you have to have a license if you are over
16 unless it is a private pond.

You can get them at Wal-Mart. It's just about the only reason my hubs will enter Wal-Mart.

Just an FYI for those of you with young boys. You can purchase them a lifetime sportman's license from Wildlife for $200 before they turn 1. From 1-11 it is $350.After that $500. My parents bought one for our son when he was born. The same license cost $40 annually so it pays for itself in 12 years. It is available to adults as well. It is just an old North Carolina family tradition to give to a future sportsman. It is more to include coastal saltwater fishing. Go to ncwildlife.org to check it out.
