No, I just typed NY instead of NC. I meant NC.

I graduated from Campbell Univ Law School in 1985 and I chose Fayetteville. I am not from here but have lived here for 25 years. I met my wife here and we raised our son here. We have enjoyed it. Any problems that Fayetteville has are also found in every other city in the US. We have lots of places to shop, eat and have some some museums, tons of federal employees. Lots of private schools. 2 universities and the 2 NC flagship universities are within 100 miles. We have bad areas and very nice areas. It is not the armpit of NC but in the 1970s (psot Vietnam years) it probably was, but after years of effort the Fayettenam image is gone. We are a miltary town with Ft Bragg here and we have tens of thousands of federal paychecks being spent here. It has been a very good place for us to live. No one from NYC, LA, Cleveland or Detroit will convince me that Fayettevile is a bad place to live.

My family lived in the greater Fayetteville area from Feb 2006 to Jan 2012. Unless you libe on a gated community or far away, you are not safe from crime. Total crime rates are 300% higher in Fayetteville than the national average, and theft and burglary are rampant. Dead beats hit all neighborhoods, and watch your house/neighborhood to know when you are home or not. Infrastructure is short sighted and inadequate=over crowed roads, red lights, idiot agressive drivers who run red lights & speed up to clear yellows. If you must come to Fay...live as close Raleigh/Southern Pines as possible. Avoid Fayetteville as much as possible. Plan to pay for private schools. City/County Leaders have tunnel vision & customer service doesn't exisit. Run Away!!!

This is a bit of an exaggeration on all counts. But, I'll address this one. Crime rate is too high at twice the city-data national average

http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime...-Carolina.html

NOT 300%! Funny, a city like Red Springs has a higher rate than fayetteville.

Hi everyone!!! I am a New Yorker all my life and am copnsidering a move to Fayetteville mostly because I have friends there. I really hate the idea of my 4 year old starin school in Brooklyn where I currently live. I know nothing about Fayettevill but visited and didnt see much that didnt depress me. I am styill weilling to give it a try to let my daughter have a great education and a slower pace of life. I am scared to death that I wont find work so I've been searching from NYC which is a battle in itself! Any advice would be helpful and I do not live in the ghetto in NYC so I;ll be damned if I move to one in NC..Please provide any info on good schools, and job prospects..I have a social service backgroung and a Masters in Human Services. Thank You all

Fayetteville does has a high unemployment rate. I would get a job lined up first if at all possible. Fayetteville won't compare at all to New York City. Of course you could not pay me enough to live in a big city like New York. It is all a matter of perspective and preferences. I would suggest looking at USAJOBs for government jobs on Fort Bragg. The process of hiring is frustrating but the rewards are great.

I lived in Fayetteville from 1988-2000. The only place fun to hang out was the Palomino club on Owen Dr. on $1 beer night, which was on Wednesdays.

You would find quite a few changes since 2000. Most of them for the better.

For Fayetteville to be called something similar makes sense. I lived there for two+ years while in the 1st325th Infantry. I miss the town, but also remember that it was an armpit. It's nice once you get used to it though.
