Apparently, Whataburger of Texas & What-A-Burger of Virginia are two different hamburger chains. As far as I can tell, Whataburger has never operated a restaurant in North Carolina. The Texas-based Whataburger sued the Virginia-based What-A-Burger in 2003 over trademark infringement.
to many natives it is the real whataburger. let's not try and make NC another state as so many transplants seem to want to do. This is North Carolina not where you came from.

Excuse me??? I AM from here, don't be rude, there is really no need.
What I meant was, whataburger has been around for almost 60 years as a chain - that's why THEY are the real whataburger. I LOVE visiting states that have them and really wish we could get them to come as far east as NC.
why are they the real whataburger? I prefer the ones here. I did not mean to offend you and I stand by my comments about many newcomers wanting to bring their favorIte things from home with them.

Well, since I'm not a newcomer I don't understand why you would address that remark to me. However, like I said, whataburger has been a chain for decades which is why I called them the "real" deal - that's all. It's great that you like your local What-a-burger - I love supporting local businessmen myself.
