Actually, if you check out weather data from NOAA, Farmer's Almanac and the Weather Channel. They all say the entire South is expecting a warmer than average winter, this includes February. I'm not sure where you are getting your information?

We have had a very nice winter this year in Minnesota - except now we are getting some very cold weather. Yesterday, it was so cold my car wouldn't start.

Thank you for all of the information on North Carolina weather. If I do end up moving there, I would like to move somewhere along the coast so I can enjoy the least amount of snow possible. And I promise, that when it does snow, I will keep my mouth shut and silently enjoy the fact that I am not in Minnesota - where it will probably be 30 below and have snowbanks everywhere. Ick.

Ironically, tomorrow (Jan 21) is the anniversary of the coldest recorded temperature in NC (well, in Raleigh, where I am: -9 in 1985) and it is supposed to get to ~68 or so. Monday they are saying 70? And I believe this week is historically the "coldest week", so take it as you will. I don't like winter, and even *I* feel gypped.

So we will probably get 2 feet of snow in mid-March, like we did when I was in 10th grade and we had to go to school on Saturdays to make it up because we'd already passed all of the "built in makeup days" that winter.

I was thinking about that too Francois in regards this is NC normal possible snow dates. Between 17th and often on the 20th in January.

I cant remember heavy snow in March, sounded like an event.

If we was to averages we have past our significant snow prime season.
The way jet stream has been hovering state, Im not ruling out an ice storm between now & mid March.

Back to thread topic, I am loving these warm days and cold nights.
I planted Kentucky fescue in some bare spots in the yard last fall. If these warm days continue I might have to mow in February.

It was nice having a warm Thanksgiving. It my first time having Thanksgiving outdoors.

If it didnt snow rest of year, that would be fine by me.
The white Christmas last year will do me fine for five more years.

March 12, 1993- Known as the Storm of the Century, a two-day whiteout starting March 12, dumped 2 feet of snow on the Western North Carolina mountains. The storm left a dozen people dead, more than 100,000 customers without power and caused more than $75 million in damage.

Hey there citydweller, if you want some cold, I could call my relatives up in New England and see about hooking you up. Seriously, last winter we had sub zero days and mountains of snow that wouldn't melt. Its better there this year, but its still just January...last year we finally decent weather at end of April. No I am seriously not kidding

Nice. Call em and tell em to send us some cold.. and a little snow to go with it pulease.

Seriously though, the next 10 days looks like highs in the 50s to 60s so I am wondering if we really will get a true winter. I bet the ants and bugs out there are rejoicing..

As a native I know that mild weather in January means cold messy weather will hit us hard before spring. Enjoy it while you can.it wont last much longer.
