Thumbs up Tell me about Lumberton, NC

Anyone living in Lumberton? Can you tell me if you like it. Is it a nice place to live? How is the weather? Is housing affordable? Are there things to do? How is the education for childrens? Are there jobs available in Cary or surrounding cities? How the Lumberton is in comparision to Fyetteville?

Any help and info would be great!

I went there once and that was more than enough. Not nice at all. This was several years ago and I don't think much has changed. It has always stuck in my mind as one of the worst places in NC. Don't care much for Fayetteville either.

If your choice is between Cary and Lumberton, by all means go to Cary. That area around Lumberton has some of the worst problems with schools and some very corrupt police officials. Check out this link to the local paper

Is it too late to decline the job offer? I would not personally live in that area at all - it is the most undesirable place in all of NC.

I think you are being a bit too unfair........
I've been to Lumberton a couple of times, and it isn't that bad.
Some people like the flat coastal plains with pine trees, sandy soil and a slower, laid back pace and vibe.

Sure it isn't booming, but I like the sweet "Old North Carolina" feel of the area compared to the new, fake, transplant areas of the Triangle and Charlotte.......

Boy am I gonna get it for saying that........

You made me laugh with this response

My reason for thinking this is the least desirable part of the state isn't the scenery though. It's the high drop out rates, higher unemployement rates, corrupt officials. It's just not the kind of place you're likely to see much home appreciation either.
