Hi,
My Husband and I fell in LOVE with Boone on a visit there a few years ago...however, I work in a corporate environment, and he wants to work doing something with wildlife...and there isn't much for corporate choices in the Boone area. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of an area either closer to Asheville or closer to Winston-Salem that might be a town somewhat like Boone? We have 2 little boys that we need a good elementary school for and would really like to be near the mountains if at all possible...flat land isn't really our thing. Thanks SO much!

What is about Boone that you like so much the downtown? Small town?
Other than the downtown the rest of Boone is same as other small towns.

Look into Mt. Airy, Sparta, Elkin.

How about between Boone and Asheville? Mars Hill? Weaverville? Marion? There are quite a fewoptions, but will they have "corporate" opportunities?

Yeah, as stated above, you really need to say what specifically makes a town "Boone-like" that you are looking for. A university? Mountains? Population in the range of XXXX-XXXXX? Many places have some similarities with Boone, though I don't really know any "just like it" in NC. You might look in the direction towards Knoxville or Chattanooga, TN for more mountain towns near cities.

Sorry...yes, that wasn't particularly specific, was it? What we like about Boone is that you can live in the woods on a hill, but still be 10 minutes from anything you need. It has all the big stores, but it also has the small antique district area with small mom and pop businesses. It has safe roads to walk on at any hour and everyone is pretty accepting of a "Yankee". Or at least they seemed to be. Thanks for the suggestions guys! It's MUCH appreciated!
