North Carolina moving?
I am a 20 year old girl who just wants to get out of Arizona and I have always wanted to live on the east coast. How is North Carolina? What would be the safest places for a girl to live alone? And if not in North Carolina, then where? Also, how is the nursing field or dental hygiene there? Those are the degrees I could be moving out there with, are jobs available? Also, where would be the best place for me to find people my age? I will be moving alone and needing to meet people.. Is North Carolina majority african americans or majority white? Not that it matters, just for preparation.. Thank you so much for your help. Any information is useful, and if North Carolina doesn't seem like a good fit, where would you suggest?? Thank so much! Oh, I will be going to the east coast this summer to pick a city, so as many suggestions as you would like to throw out there are fine! I will make sure to put them on my list before I move this fall.

Look into Rocky Mount, The city is about 60% Black the city could use more youth. Far as hospital career you have several options.
- NASH GENERAL HOSPITAL
(Acute Care Hospitals, Government - Hospital District or Authority, provides emergency services, 2460 CURTIS ELLIS DRIVE)
Other hospitals/medical centers near Rocky Mount:
- HERITAGE HOSPITAL (Acute Care Hospitals, Government - Local, provides emergency services, about 13 miles away; TARBORO, NC)
- WILSON MEDICAL CENTER (Acute Care Hospitals, Voluntary non-profit - Private, provides emergency services, about 18 miles away; WILSON, NC)

Have degree will travel? Best to have employment in hand before any move. OR 6 months or more of income on hand.
You can find employment, juts remember there are schools here churning out LPNs and Hygienists as well.
Thaty said, you might wnt tolok into places like Raleigh / Clayton, Burlington / Greensboro, Statesville / Lexington as possible destinations as well.
Rocky Mount is ok, but might be high on the crime index? Do you want to be closer to the coast>?
Just expect a higher COL and more competition for employment.
Elizabeth City or New Bern are on the water.
As you might realize, NC is big and there are areas all across the state that are great. When my wife and I moved here in 2009, she was awestruck...As I told her there always seems to another city that is as good or better than the one you currently live in.

NC is a large state with mountains and ocean, urban areas and farms, liberal and conservatives.

What part of the state are you talking about? It's a large, diverse state.

We really can't say--you need to do your own research about that. Perhaps post in the General US board? Where you've posted is for North Carolina only.

So many questions! You'll get better responses asking on topic at a time. I'm curious as to why you want to move here is if seemingly know nothing about the state or the job market?

No state in the US is majority African-American. NC is about 22% black. Again, you can Google all kinds of things about NC, which I recommend before asking more targetted questions here.

Again, we can't possibly suggest something without knowing you. Research, research, research. Wikipedia and Google are good resources for basics. you are giving the impression that you know almost nothing about North Carolina, o I'm curious as to what has made you want to move here?

out of curiosity, when are you talking about moving? you mention degrees in nursing & in dental hygiene -- you have both at age 20?
i can tell you that experienced dental hygienists are having a difficult time finding work. there are plenty of schools graduating dental hygienists in the area & many are choosing to stay to work in the state. you will, of course, need to be certified in NC so take that into consideration. i have no idea how that works for nursing but i'm sure someone could tell you.

I am 18 right now and am a nursing major as of right now and only have about 6 months left, but I may be switching to dental hygiene depending on my interests, they both have the same pre requisites, I just am not sure what I'd rather do, I'm weighing my options..

Are you getting younger as time goes by? Your first post says you are 20, now you say you are 18. Is this a sincere and serious thread?

Never mind that she only has 6 months left in her program but still doesn't know what her specialty will be yet and has only had pre-reqs.

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to Rocky Mount, much less a 20yo-ish girl from out of state with no connections.
