What industries have y'all worked in, and what type of jobs are you willing to consider [fields, positions, salary range]?
I don't think it's because you're from Florida. There have been massive layoffs in the past few years in this area, and a lot of people are looking for work. With some of the plants that you mentioned, there are a lot of former Corning employees, and former furniture workers that have years of specific job experience, so competition can be tough. My husband had an associates degree, supervisory experience, and 15 years with one company in his industry before they closed down, and he still had a tough time getting interviews and job offers.
That said, the new Williams Sonoma plant may be a good opportunity, and I know that Baker Furniture is still hiring. If either of you would be willing to do that type of work, the state Department of Corrections is always hiring for prison guards, and often for caseworkers as well. Not the best job in the world, but it will pay the bills and there's always steady work.
